This time the Trofeo Melinda was assigning the title of the best italian rider as it was the national championship. It took place in the area were the Moser family lives, so all expectations were on Moreno to grap the title, as he was off to the Tour de France exactly a week later. The pressure was building on the Cannondale team, and they were the team with more riders alongside Androni Giocattoli as Pellizzotti was defending his title won the year before. The day was sunny and the air was cool, as we say the perfect temperature for a bike ride. In fact the children loved it, and at our pace we did 1 lap, for them to see how hard it was for the riders. They also experienced a “ravitaillement” which is the moment when the riders take the food bag, to throw it away once emptied. They collected quite a number of team bottles. The crowd was good, and the momentum was inceasing lap by lap anf from the last 3 the cheering was pretty loud. The title was won by Santaromita of BMC who in the end was alone as the other team mate was way back. After the winning ceremony it was easy to approach the riders, it was a very familiar atmosphere, really a good day full of cycling.
